Porting the MAF and Housing"
The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor is a device which measures how much air is entering your engine so the computer knows how much fuel it should spray in there. The MAF housings are two metal pieces which hold the MAF in place.
WARNING: It is VERY important that you not touch those wires inside the MAF for any reason, including just cleaning them.
Tools Required
I actually put together and ported and polished 2 backs maf ends on mine to get more air flow!
Lets's Get Started:
-
Remove the MAF from the car.
-
Unscrew the Torx bolts and separate the MAF housings (the metal pieces) from the actual MAF (the black pastic piece). Set the MAF aside and DON'T TOUCH IT FOR ANY REASON! Not even to clean it!
-
Take apart your hack saw and stick the blade through one of the MAF housings, then re-attach the blade and tighten it.
-
Now proceed to cut (getting as close to the side as possible) the middle divider out from the MAF housing.
-
After you have cut out the main portion of the center divider, you should have two stubs on either side of the housing. Take your Dremel and grind these stubs down until they are flush with the rest of the housing. It doesn't need to be perfect, but the smoother the better.
-
Now put on your polishing bit and really smooth out where you've been grinding.
-
After it's pretty smooth, use your sand paper to really smooth out the whole inside of the housing.
-
-
Repeat steps 3 - 7 for the second housing.
-
Now simply screw the 3 pieces back together and insert it back into the car. Take care to put it in the right direction, there are arrows on the MAF to help you.
